Why do you have more time to travel than you think
Time. There does not seem to be enough. It always seems to evolve too quickly (and every year it seems to move faster).
Time is something that people always tell me that they don't have enough and it is one of the main reasons why they do not travel as much as they would like. (Money is also a problem, I talked about here.)
Although there is more Digital nomads And workers remotely now that Covid has changed the concept of the office, not everyone is able to work remotely these days.
But even if they don't want to be nomadic, most of the people I know with office jobs (especially Americans) want to travel more than them. They just feel like they don't have time.
They are wrong.
Here is why.
Let's say that you work 50 weeks a year and get two weeks of vacation. (Not American? Then, you probably get much more and it's wonderful.) Count your vacation time and every weekend brings the total number of days a year, you can travel at 110 (104 days of weekends plus the 10 days of your two-week vacation). It's a lot of time to travel. Add weekends and three-day holidays, and we can add even more days to our total. It may not be all continuous, but you can do a lot with so much time.
Let's think about this for a second: 110+ days of free time per year. It's close to four months potential journey time per year! Four months! The world is your oyster with so much time.
When you look at it this way, our busy schedule becomes much more open. What do you do with this time?
Everything is a question of priorities. Yes, we have certain obligations in our daily lives that take time, but if you really want something, you find a way to do it. It's like when I say that I don't have time to go to the gymnasium. I have a lot time to go to the gymnasium; I just spend this time elsewhere.
Because the gymnasium is simply not a priority for me (even if it should probably be).
In addition, most people associate the “journey” with a long -term trip, large and expensive and thus reduce all short -term travel methods. When people think “I want to travel” They are considering a two -week vacation, a cruise or a long trip of several months. It is a big trip to a distant country.
It is not really their fault. This is how the travel industry tells us that we have to travel, because long and long trips mean that people will spend more money. We internal this concept and never consider other options.
And if you hear something enough, you believe it. I used to. It is Why Jessica never goes to Ireland And Bob will always be a hateful.
However, if Covid has taught us something, it is because there are tons of things to see and do near us. Even when you have no months to travel, as we have seen, you still have 110 days of potential travel per year. If you make a priority, you can certainly travel more.
But what are you doing? What type of trip can you make on a smaller time scale that still has a big impact? Here are some travel ideas to help you plan to travel when you have a limited time:
1. Take a weekend getaway
Spend a weekend somewhere. Two days, it's not a lot of time, but that is enough to explore a city, a city or a camp in a national park near you. I used to spend a lot of time in new York. From there, weekends would include trips to Atlantic City, Fire Island, Hamptons, Berkshires, Boston,, PhiladelphiaAnd Washington DC – And these are just those a few hours!
Try to incorporate more weekends. This can help you break your routine and keep your steering wheel in check until your next big trip. Even a few days somewhere, it is better than any day nowhere!
2. Go somewhere
Do you only have a week? Do not travel all over the world, losing tons of time to go to your destination. Go to a short distance.
Live in Miami and Fiji is too far? Head to Central America!
In Sydney and Los Angeles is too far? Go halfway and stop in Hawaii, visit New ZealandOr go to an island nation of the Pacific!
In Europe? Well, 90% of the continent is a three -hour flight, so you're ready!
Stay near and you will need less time to do what you want. In addition, the best flight offers that you can find often relate to destinations close to you. So be flexible.
Wherever you have been, it's a good place to visit.
And, when you travel, the less it is always more.
3. Be a local tourist
I don't think people are tourists in their own city quite often. How often do you visit museums, do you explore new areas in your city or visit the main attractions of your city? I know New Yorkers who never have summer at the MetBostonians who never have has traveled the Freedom TrailAnd Amsterdammers who never wandered in the Red Fire district.
Take the weekend, get out of the house and in a cheap place to stay, and be a tourist. I love playing the tourist in my own city because it helps you learn and understand where you come from.
There are so many things around you that you probably do not take advantage of when you are busy leading your regular life only when you stop and look for a second, you can find many exciting activities to fill your time.
After all, trips are to see and learn new things – and it can take place in your own backyard!
Important: if you are going to do this, stay somewhere, it's not your house, so it looks more like a vacation. Otherwise, it will be too tempting to wake up, do shopping, then “run out of time”. To make it really work, you have to break your routine – and not stay in your home is important to do it.
4. Maximize your time
Do not try to see everything under the sun. You run too much. I engage a lot of emails from people who want to see half of Europe In two weeks or wish to conquer all of South America in a month.
When you think that is how you have to travel and try to pile up everything, it is easy to hang on to your route. You look at all these destinations, you are overwhelmed, realize that there is not enough time, abandon and hold until you “have” time.
I understand that you don't have a lot of vacation and that you want to see a lot, but not! Stop at only one or two places suddenly opens a lot of time and opportunity! You can never see everything. Even with my open schedule, I still don't see everything I want. I stopped trying a long time ago. When traveling, the less it is more. Quality on quantity.
You may not have a month to travel, but that doesn't mean you can't travel at all. There is a plethora of ways of getting out and Travel the world with a budget without having to be a nomad like me. To say that you don't have time is just an excuse.
You have time and you can Learn skills to better travel. The problem is that you probably don't think about how to spend this time beyond the typical two-week vacation.
So the next time you think “I don't have time”, think about all the nearby places, you could explore. Yes, you will have races to do and things that require your attention. But using your time in a productive way, prioritize trips and leave the beaten track, you will find yourself TO DO have time to explore the world.
Travel concerns exploration, and this exploration can occur anywhere for a while.
